Be Vegetarian , Save the World

A Poster by Peta Reducing Meat Consumtion can bring down Green House Gas Emissions.Such lifestyle changes and behaviour patterns can contribute to climate change mitigation work. A farmer can feed up to 30 persons throughout a year from one hectare with vegetables, fruits and cereals. If the same area is used for the production of eggs, milk or meat, the number of persons that can be fed varies from five to ten Livestock production accounts for 70 per cent of all agricultural land and 30 per cent of the world’s surface land area . These are excerpts from R.K.Pachauri's article published in Indian Express 3rd dec(or HT 4th dec). We all know the personal benefits of Vegetarian food over Non-Vegetarian(i am not going to point those out here). Now there is another reason to avoid meat -Climate .Have a look at the complete article here :- http://epaper.hindustantimes.com/ArticleImage.aspx?article=04_12_2009_010_005&mode=1 or http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/rkpachauri/Cold...
Many a times in life we are faced with a situation where both our mind and heart contradict each other.  And  its said we should always follow our heart .  Seems a pickup line from just any movie . Well quite true .  The best situation is when your brain suggests what your heart wanna follow .You can concentrate all your energies in one direction and with that we will achieve our goal or win over situation . And the worst is,even after our brain and heart being in sync, we cant chose which way to go. And often we end up  the other way. Life is cruel .It forces us to do what we hate . What a person needs to do in such a situation ?I a dont know what's correct . But what life has taught me,the little experience i have ,  is - just face it with head on. Life has its own plans for us . Be positive ,who knows - may be thats the best thing in long run  .

My Variable looks

Recently tried picasa 3.5 and itz image search feature . Before i move on , a brief about image search .Picasa searches for all images on ur computer and if it finds any "faces" in the pic , it groups the "similar" faces and and put them in "unnamed"album .You can then name the person in the pic .and from thereon all the images having that person will automatically be put in the persons album . Well i must say google does its work quite well .Obviously no algorithm can be flawless , but the way it performed really took me by surprise. its amazing . for more detail got ot :- http://picasa-readme.blogspot.com/ http://googlephotos.blogspot.com/ Now my own experience of picasa 3.5.Picasa scanned and brought so many people's images, new faces , i never thought i had those pics .I have about 80 people's album , and about 1600 pics in unnamed album!!!(i never thought i had so many different pics of people) . SO next came the turn of seeing my pics found by...

PerFect Engineer

Studying at the last moment for midsems this time ,thanx to the placement season , reminded me of an interesting incident told by my friend. There was a presentaion in his college by some successful(!!!) Software Engineer(forgot his name ),an Ex-IITian . He started his speech asking about the definition of an engineer, and how should we be as a prospective engineer in college. Breaking the silence of the PPT hall, A student stood up(very Kapil like) . According to him being a student,we should be obedient , attend all the classes. Study all the subjects with due sincerity before hand and bla..bla..bla.. .Well every thing u can associate with a student like Kapil. After he was done , Engineer said "These are exactly waht u should never do :-P".Every one broke to laughter. Studying at the last moment , handling the pressure of doing assignments(usually just before exams :P) , multitasking actually transforms us into students to engineers . Engineering colleges, apart from studies...

Cars and Cars Every Where

Just came back from college , after first midsem .Its not that,my preparation for tomorrows exam are complete. In fact i have to start studying the DCS .So this post gonna be short and be prepared for miskates ;) .After Exam Taking my scooty out of parking i noticed the parking was jam packed with cars, even overcapacity .There were hardly some bikes in parking . 2-3 yrs back (wen i was in 1-2nd yr) this was not the case .Cars were not that in plenty. Even it was kinda cool to own a car . This reminds me of a dialogue from a movie .I state it in present context."If every other person comes to college in car , that means 50% of students are cool . If all are cool , that means actually no one is cool". If the situation keep on continuing like this ,i.e. students taking cars to college or getting cars as their first gift for college, May be it would be hard to find parking space in college. Then may be ,10 yr old scootys like mine will be a cool thing to own :D .lol . Ending th...

Kargil And INDIA

Yesterday ,Our project head in MTNL told he quite liked my blog and the posts(esp. the one in which i wrote about MTNL :-P ) . Actually he reminded me to write something new . So am here investing my time to write something new .But wait what should be the topic of the post . If You missed it then ,today is the the 10th anniversary of the Kargil war . So that would be the most appropriate topic for today' s post . Kargil War aka "Operation Vijay" ended on 26th July , 1999 . It was one of the toghest wars to win especially the "Tiger Hill" . As rightly commented by Major Rai "If i was sitting at the peak like them , i could have killed anyone with a stone", referring to the advantage pakistani intruders had sitting in fortified positions on top of Tiger Hill (esp. when they have Army Regulars on their side) . Even thousands of pages will be less to write about the adventures of kargil and and the army. Wars are destructive. But they actually boost th...

My Desktops New Look

After bearing up with the boring look of ubuntu , for quite a time , primarily due to lack of free time (dont think m a completely vella now days) , I decided to spice my Ubuntu a bit . Above is the snapshot of my latest desktop .Isnt it Cool ? Without going into technical details(I plan to keep this blog tech free , as much as i could, but no one knows the future ;-) ) Let me point out sm special things .First is at the right , displaying all specifications of my pc ,dynamically .Moreover i can change every thing there by just a small script . Next is the cool look of the boring terminal . and if u noticed , kde apps on ubuntu(amarok and ol ). I have kde installed on ubuntu too :-) ,Never forget noticing the panels and system theme . Mind you for all this , i havnt put much of extra resouce hungry apps. So not much loss in ubuntu speed . In fact for all practical purposes , loss of resources is negligible . You can say a perfect balance of look(eye candy) and performance. There'...
